Best way to reduce chance of hash collisions: Multiple hashes, or larger hash? Thanks for the answers guys! My blocks come from normal user data (hard drives, etc.), but there will (in the long run) be multiple petabytes worth of blocks. |

Best way to reduce chance of hash collisions: Multiple hashes, or larger hash? Thanks for the response. I guess my question is: is SHA-384 a better option than SHA-256 and MD-5 combined? And yes, I do anticipate a very large number of data blocks. Let's say there are $2^{64}$ blocks, does that mean there's a 25% chance of a collision? |
