Does knowing common prefixes help crack blowfish? Although the original implementation of BCrypt auto generates a salt, the PHP implementation does not. In fact, the format of the salt selects the hashing algorithm used. From the PHP documentation; "If no salt is provided, PHP will auto-generate either a standard two character (DES) salt, or a twelve character (MD5), depending on the availability of MD5 crypt()." |
