Thanks for the detailed answer. Just a short FYI - while "you" or I can't change Bitcoin's algorithm, "We" the economical majority can. If it is determined some day that that a change of algorithm if needed, then it can be done as of some future block number. See en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Economic_majority

@CodesInChaos - Hmm, close but no cigar. I need to be able to update the data, which means Read it, Change it, and Save it. I can't read it without retaining the private key.
