I am a software engineer by profession and a mathematics undergraduate in the evenings. I speak French, and I am generally interested in operating systems. My corner of the web is here and you might be interested in code I have written.

Advantages of each encryption mode I'm closing this for now as it remains way too broad - we can't just list some advantages based on requirements that might or might not suit your case, because that's just not answerable. Rather than "what are some advantages", explain the situation you are likely to encounter - for example this question asks about maximum key sizes for CBC. Again, David's comments are excellent - you need to be specific. When you're done, flag for re-opening and we'll get the answers coming in again. |

cipher text only attack - how to know when to stop when brute-force attack? @gAsk in that case, can I make a suggestion? Give your question a quick edit - thoroughly demonstrate the relevant bits of your work so far. Walk us through it, with relevant examples. If you make an edit and then reply to us here, we can always re-open the question. Closure is not final. If you're struggling with what to add, feel free to grab us in chat. |

How secure is the Vigenère cipher in file encryption if you encrypt the password first? I've taken your "please explain downvoting" out of the question as it kinda gets in the way of the question - and the comment should do it. Unfortunately, there's no requirement on anyone to explain their voting - it's totally anonymous, even from moderators. There have been proposals to require comments and they've been declined - have a look here. |

Does the Biclique attack on AES pose a credible risk to its security? Right - I've gone in with a fairly audacious edit - if you don't like it or it isn't what you meant, do feel free to edit/improve it. I have basically taken out the references to all attacks and asked about this specific one, which should help you get the answers you're looking for, I think. If you need help, do feel free to reply to me here, or via a flag, or ask on meta. |
