finding collision for truncated SHA1 hash output
+1 for posting your methodology without anyone asking for it. Also, wow, I would never guess you can get a collision that quickly for a 40bit only version of SHA1.
How to encrypt a short string and keep the length secret
Side-question: what is the danger of exposing string lengths, especially if they're encrypted?
Do parts of a hash carry the properties of the entire hash?
All answers are good, but I picked yours because I learned the most from it ;)
