on python, sadly SCrypt is hard to compile, needs openSSL and it dident work, only works on Linux, pbkdf2 is so easy to implement on python since it dont need C extensions to speed up

yes that is the problem, it seems that if someone will use a powerful algorithm (= slow) he will get a DOS in his server! thank you again ;)

ah! now i get the idea, because i the past i considered the three as separate algo, so now i have SCrypt and BCrypt, and pbkdf2 which is used by SCrypt and not the concurrent of SCrypt itself ;)

sorry if am slow to get the idea, but why do we calculate n times f(x) and then when we find the result we must recalculate it? and both (rainbow table and preimage hashs) will contain hashs as second value?

thank you for the answer, from what i understand; rainbow table is a kind of hash table with pairs (x, f(n)(x)) instead of (x, f(x)) we will end at the same size no?

that's what i dont understand, the technique is only store the word and hashN(word) so why hashing and reducing and wasting time if it will not be saved?

internet bandwidth is just to see how time it takes for the client to get the response, so because am i a third world connection, i should consider that the time is too high, so i try to gain lost time in hashing calculation time :D

@CodesInChaos thank you, on python here, the better i can put on pbkdf2-sha512 (on 64 bits machine) is 10000, even if owasp suggests a big value :(

@D.W. bad, i mean crackable in few seconds using rainbow tables, because i thought rainbow tables use meaningful words, but found that any alphanumeric has been hashed! and that leads to say that hashing multiple times will not avoid the rainbow table attacks ;)
