In short, I am writing a paper about cracking the Vigenere cipher. There are supposed to be three parts to it and each is supposed to be related to an academic article (or anything formal). I chose Kasiski test and IOC for the first two parts to guess the key length. The third part is splitting the plaintext into n groups where n is the key length and then conducting frequency analysis to determine the key (one character at a time).

For the paper I can't just cite a paper about frequency analysis so I need to know the formal name for this technique (if there is one).

Originally, the determine key portion would have been done with brute forcing keys until langdetect trips.

$\begingroup$ Frequency analysis is the formal name. What else do you expect as an answer? $\endgroup$
