I'm designing a cipher and I'm looking for a Non-linear phase in my cipher that is side channel attack proof, I know that Sboxes are vulnerable to to that because of accessing the cache. I'm thinking of something like a 2 or 4 bit Sbox which is like 00->01 11->10 10->11 01->00 but I'm afraid it will be weak to Differential cryptanalysis. Is there a non-linear Side channel attack proof phases?

BTW: I'm using a hash for the key schedule, does it make the cipher more resilient to Differential cryptanalysis?

  • $\begingroup$ Look into ARX ciphers. Side-channel attacks are complex, and not just cache timing related. Power analysis, electromagnetic emissions, etc, can matter. The key thing is not to have any operations that use resources differently depending on the value of any secret data. $\endgroup$ May 27 at 14:00
